    Just lately, my laptop won't stay asleep. It's getting more and more like me. Anyone have a suggestion for correcting this?

    Have you checked to see if the sleep mode timer on the laptop didn't default to "no sleep" mode?

    If not a little ambien or powder Valium may help ;)

    Nope, not it. So many Internet postings about this problem. We'll probably have to wait for MicroSoft to release another patch. [IMG]

    Well, it went like this:

    Disconnect AC power plug from the computer (mine is a laptop).
    Hold the on/off button down for a full 60 seconds.
    Release the on/off button.
    Reconnect the AC power plug.
    Depress the on/off button to restart the computer.

    It is the same procedure for when your computer will not turn on.

    So far, so good for me. Hope it helps others. :)

    I would only do something like this as a last resort. There is a risk that the file systems on the drives will be inconsistent;
    for Apple, fixing it requires either booting from an install disk (or USB bootable drive) and running Disk First Aid,
    or for windows some magic when it boots into safe mode. I'm not a windows guy; somebody else will have to say
    what to do then.

    (On Apple, there's also the option of booting it holding down apple-T so it boots pretending to be a hard drive,
    hooking it up to another computer and using Disk First aid on the other computer to repair it).

    Thanks for your insight. I've used the power off/power on method twice successfully, but in the future I'll go with "system restore" for starters.
